Palos Heights, Ill. --- It was another barn burner for the Pilots (4-9, 2-8) in Palos Heights, Ill., in a five-set duel where Bethel defeated the Trinity Christian Trolls (10-6, 3-4) by a score of 3-2.
Freshman Marcos Henrike hit a career-high 19 kills on only one attack error at a clip of a .600 hitting percentage; Henrike also had two aces and three block assists. Arthur Barreto had similar success with 15 kills, four block assists, and five digs, while Erik Malek led the offense well with 46 assists.
The Pilots were down early, but an attack error and a combo block by Josiah Wilson and Michael Nichols tied the first set at 5-5. Wilson gave the Pilots their first lead with a kill to make it 6-5, but the lead did not last. Erik Malek brought the Pilots within one point on an ace 14-13, but it still was not enough to harbor the set, and the Trolls took set one 25-21.
Set two began the same way; this time, the 5-5 tie came from a 3-0 run from a kill by Henrike and a pair of TCC attack errors.
Bethel went on a late 4-0 run by three straight aces from Ben Ritzema and a kill from Barreto to seal the set two victory 25-19.
The third set tied on six different occasions and almost tied the set 22-21 late but couldn't get over the hump, and TCC took set three 25-22.

The fifth set was neck and neck to a Pilot 15-13 set and match victory.
