SOUTH BEND, Ind. ---The Bethel Esports Team competed in the in-person Great Lakes Esports Conference Playoffs on Friday at the Bendix LAN Center.
The Pilots competed in both Super Smash Bros Ultimate (taking fourth place), and League of Legends (finishing in fifth place).
August Pogue (Gus) and
Blake Wehlage (Blake645) each received First Team All-Conference Honors for Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Throughout the eight GLEC regular season matchups, excluding the ninth match won by forfeit, Pogue (54) and Wehlage (66) totaled 110 KO's.
Pogue shared, "Very glad to support my team in my last year of competition."
Head Coach Jacob Rendall wrote, "Gus is not only a very skilled player, but he is a great team player. He leads by example, always pushing himself and others to get better every day."
Blake Wehlage was also awarded the MVP award, adding, "I'm honestly shocked that I received this award. I wouldn't be here without my team, my friends, and my family."
Zak Shaffer (Happy) was named to the Second All-Conference Valorant Team.
During GLEC regular season play, Shaffer totaled 192 kills, averaging 13.7 kills per game.
Rendall shared that Zak, "...is always working to get better and be at his best every season, no matter which game he is playing."
With GLEC play completed, the Pilots will set their sights on the ECAC Playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 8 PM. Bethel qualified to compete in Valorant.
