Box Score ANGOLA, Ind. ---The Bethel Pilots (3-2) outscored the Trine University Thunder (3-1) four goals to one in a fourth-quarter upset to win 14-13.
With this win, the Pilots claimed their first win against the Thunder, as Trine suffered their first loss of the season.
Addi Jones was the Pilots' leading scorer, with four points on four goals, hitting a personal season high for both statistics.
Callie Brondyke totaled three goals, and one assist for a total of four points. Brondyke scored the game-winning goal for Bethel.
Serenity Kretschmer also posted four points with three goals and recorded the final assist of the game.
In the first quarter, both teams were at a standstill until Trine recorded their first goal at 8:55. The Thunder showcased a 2-0 lead at 7:55.
Chloe Harding shot the first goal for Bethel's offense, scoring at 4:50 (2-1).
Callie Brondyke interrupted the Thunder offense with her own goal to close out the quarter (1:38).
Bethel trailed 4-2 after the first.
In the second quarter,
Addi Jones initiated the Pilots' scoring within the first minute on the clock (14:07). Bethel trailed by one (4-3).
Addi Jones continued to dominate with two consecutive goals mid-quarter (11:41, 10:42), tying up the score 5-5.
The Thunder pressed on with their aggressive offense, scoring at 9:49 to regain the lead (6-5).
Serenity Kretschmer retied the board 6-6 with her own goal, assisted by
Megan Williams (7:54).
At 5:40,
Callie Brondyke closed out the quarter with one additional goal.
The Pilots ended the half trailing 8-7.
In the third quarter, the Pilots demonstrated offensive consistency mid-quarter with three consecutive goals.
Addi Jones and
PJ Pearson scored at 7:51 and 6:49 respectively, as Trine led by one (10-9).
At 5:14,
Megan Williams retied the score 10-10.
The Thunder retaliated with two goals in the final third of the quarter. Bethel trailed 12-10.
In the final quarter, Trine posted their final goal at 8:02.
Bethel surmounted their three-point deficit, recording four goals over the Thunder.
Callie Brondyke scored the game-winning goal to secure the game and the first program win over Trine, 14-13.
Bethel will next compete against the Marian University Knights to open up conference play in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Pilots will host the game at 5 PM on Morey Field.
