GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Bethel University women's lacrosse team put on a strong performance in their second game of WHAC play, beating Aquinas College 13-4 on Saturday afternoon. The Pilots (4-3, 1-1 WHAC) took control early, building a big lead in the first half and never looking back against the Saints (0-3, 0-1 WHAC).
Bethel started fast, with Chloe Harding scoring the first goal just over a minute into the game. The Pilots dominated the first quarter, scoring six times while holding Aquinas to just one goal. Addi Jones, Serenity Kretschmer, and PJ Pearson each scored before Isabell Gerbrand added two more to give Bethel a 6-1 lead after the first quarter. The Pilots stayed in control in the second quarter, adding five more goals.
Mackenzie Holland and Megan Williams found the back of the net before Pearson and Kretschmer each scored again. Jones finished the half with her second goal, giving Bethel a big 11-1 lead at halftime.
Aquinas tried to fight back in the second half, scoring early in the third quarter, but Bethel responded quickly with Gerbrand's third goal. The Saints added two more in the fourth quarter, but Holland scored in the final minute to seal the 13-4 victory for the Pilots.
Bethel had several standout performances in their dominant win over Aquinas. Isabell Gerbrand led the way with three goals, one assist, and three draw controls, while Addi Jones also made a strong impact with two goals and an assist. Serenity Kretschmer and PJ Pearson each added two goals, contributing to Bethel's offensive success. Mackenzie Holland recorded two goals and an assist, while Chloe Harding played a key role with one goal and two assists. Megan Williams also chipped in with a goal and an assist. In goal, Caitlyn Steensma made two saves to help secure the victory for the Pilots.
The Pilots dominated both sides of the field, outshooting Aquinas 28-8 and winning 13 draw controls. Their defense played tough, forcing 30 turnovers and allowing only five shots on goal.
Bethel will try to keep their momentum going when they return home for their next game on Wednesday, March 26, hosting Rochester Christian at Morey Field in Mishawaka, Ind.
