Jonah Kumfer and
Earl Williams had a great showing at the Clash at Cinder tournament hosted by Olivet Nazarene at the Cider Ridge Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, where the Bethel Pilots Men's Golf team won the tournament by eight strokes.
Jonah Kumfer placed third with a +9 (76-77) under Kaeden Anderson of Hawkeye Community College +6 (75-75) and Ricardo Serpa, who earned the Medalist Honor with a +2 (76-70). Kumfer started the first round +3 over par after the front nine, then hit a birdie on hole 12 for +2. Kumfer kept pace until holes 15 and 16, where he bogeyed and finished the round +4.
Kumfer stayed with the rest of the field with three bogeys in the front nine in round two, then another three in the back before getting a birie on hole 18 to finish round two at +5 and the tournament +9 for thrid-place.
Williams had a great first round, starting -1 under par on hole one, but finished the front nine +2 after shooting bogey on holes three, four, and six. In the back nine Williams' birdied on hole 11 to get back to +1, bogeyed on holes 14 and 15, but recovered with birdies on holes 16 and 18 to finish round +1.
The second round was not as kind, with a double bogey on hole nine, with three bogeys preceding it in the front nine, and was at +5. In the back nine, Williams had two more bogeys on holes 10 and 12 but birdied hole 17 and ended the second round +9 and the tournament +10 to tie for fourth place.
