MISHAWAKA, Ind. --Bethel Men's Tennis battled their way to a hard-fought win over Judson University, clinching the doubles point and securing the match in the decisive final singles court.
The Pilots started strong in doubles, taking victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point.
Dimitar Berdankov and
Lukas Slivar cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 1, while Santiago Florez and
Atanas Ivanov closed out 6-4 at No. 3.
Daniel Jancic and
Victor Otin fell 6-4 at No. 2.
In singles, the match came down to the wire. Berdankov (No. 3) earned a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win, and
Aidyn Batyrbekov (No. 5) pulled off a 6-2, 7-6(2) victory.
Sergio Orradre delivered the decisive point at No. 6, finishing 6-1, 6-1 over Julius Fortun to seal the team victory.
Head Coach Jamal Henry wrote, "Doubles was the difference in this match for two pretty even teams. Â I told the guys before we started the match, whoever won the doubles point would most likely win this match, and they came out aggressive and poised to do just that. Â We played really well in singles at #3 (
Dimitar Berdankov), #5 (
Aidyn Batyrbekov), #6 (
Sergio Orradre), and I thought
Daniel Jancic at #1 singles played well enough to take that match. Â Overall, it was a total team effort and a job well done!"
