Box Score DEFIANCE, Ohio. ---The No. 10 Bethel Pilots (8-2, 6-0) swept the Defiance College Yellowjackets (2-7, 1-5) in three sets (25-13, 25-19, 25-14) on Saturday evening in the Karl H. Weaner Center.
With the win, the Pilots are now undefeated in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play at 6-0.
Thomas Dunkley led the Bethel offense with 12 kills, while
Santana Roybal-Benson and
Christian Woumnga each totaled five blocks.
McGwire Eigenrauch totaled 32 assists and two service aces.
Eduardo Kerkoski led the Pilot defense with 16 digs.
In the opening set, Bethel posted a four-point run with balanced contributions from several Pilots (
Santana Roybal-Benson,
McGwire Eigenrauch,
Christian Woumnga, and
Thomas Dunkley).
The Pilots' lead increase to double digits with an attacking error by Thaddeus Setla of Defiance (17-7).
Thomas Dunkley terminated the final kill of the first for a 25-13 score.
In the second set, the Yellowjackets tied it up for the first time with an attacking error by
Santana Roybal-Benson (4-4).
The Pilots strung two three-point runs together for a 12-8 lead, thanks to three kills by
Jibbe Boeren,
Thomas Dunkley, and Santana Roybal_Benson.
Nikola Radicevic scored the final point of the second with a kill, and Bethel took the set 25-19.
In the final set, Bethel's blocking shone with
Christian Woumnga and
Santana Roybal-Benson shutting down Defiance for the Pilots' 18th point (18-9 ).
In the final minutes of the matchup, the Yellowjackets missed a serve and made an attacking error to surrender the sweep to the Pilots.
The Pilots will look to further their undefeated conference record on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 24. They will face the Aquinas College Saints (2-7, 1-3) in the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. First serve is set for 7 PM.
