ELKHART, Ind. – Bethel University Men's Tennis completed three rounds of singles and two rounds of doubles in the first day of the 2025 ITA NAIA Central-East Regional Championship. The event was hosted at Concord High School, and showcased several Pilots' first-career appearances and long battles that went the distance.
In singles,
Lukas Slivar, competing in his first collegiate tournament, earned a first-round bye before falling 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 to Bruno Ferrera Alvarez in round two. He rebounded with an 8-2 win in consolation over Rene De Hoyos de la Pena.
Victor Otin advanced with a first-round bye, followed by a 6-4, 6-1 win over Felix Ortola and a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Diego Blanco Goytia to reach the next stage.
Daniel Jancic dropped his opener 6-4, 6-3 but bounced back in consolation with an 8-6 win over David Schlageter.
Freshmen
Dimitar Berdankov and
Atanas Ivanov each received byes before facing one another in round two, with Berdankov edging out the victory 3-6, 7-6(5), 10-5. Berdankov followed with an over two-hour thriller, winning 7-6(5), 10-8 over Naithaolin Golmei to advance to round three. Ivanov regrouped in consolation, posting a dominant 8-0 victory over Adrian Reyes.
Sergio Orradre advanced with a bye and a gritty 3-6, 7-5, 10-2 comeback win against Nicolas Sanchez before falling in round three 6-4, 6-2 to Thomas Friesen.
In doubles play,
Victor Otin and
Daniel Jancic opened with an 8-7(6) win over Arkhip Tokmakov and Ruslan Anurev before falling 8-6 in the second round to Cesar Otondo Villain and Nicolas Donoso.
Santiago Flores and
Atanas Ivanov had a first-round bye, but fell 8-2 in the second round to Iago Ciucio and Garrett Stoltzfus.
Lukas Slivar and
Dimitar Berdankov advanced by bye before cruising to an 8-2 victory over Marco Hoerl and Jedriel Bondoc to move forward.
The Pilots will continue to compete in ITA's through Saturday, Sept. 27th.
