Patterson graduated from Bethel in 1974. He later became one of the most accomplished baseball coaches at Bethel. Dick led the Pilots for 20 seasons (1974-1994) and during that time he built an impressive resume and reputation on and off the field. Patters was a big believer in using athletics as a form of ministry taking teams to the Dominican Republic, France and various Indian reservations.
